Unregistered designs just for spare parts?

Or are

Registered designs just for fabric designers?

Design rights can offer so much more than the above, and may well be an option you haven’t considered previously.

Design rights can protect items you have made of either aesthetic or functional design; perhaps where you have previously thought patent or trademark protection would not stretch.

Relatively inexpensive, and quick to be granted, design rights grant you a monopoly right in your design.

Clever registration can see crossovers with the other intellectual property rights. For instance, a trademark could also be a registered design if the ‘configuration of shapes in the design creates a unique and original affect’.

A famous London football club sought this extra protection for their badge to protect themselves from unlicensed merchandise sellers.

If you think there is a possibility you may have something that qualifies for design protection, we can advise you and make an application for such a design.
